Counselling and Psychology

Counselling is very different from Psychology, and many can get the two confused. Professional Counsellors are trained quite differently from Psychologists.  I have attempted to briefly outline these two very different approaches to therapy for your information.

Counselling is ultimately an early intervention method of working through issues BEFORE they can become insurmountable.  Getting help sooner rather than later with a professional counsellor / therapist is always the most helpful.  You will have opportunity to work through issues before they become more of an impact on and in your life.

Counselling does not diagnose or prescribe, but allows you to discover the answers from within yourself and restore the balance holistically working with the mind, body, heart and soul.

Counselling is a way of exploring your personal situations and issues with a professional who is empathic, impartial and non-judgmental.  It does not provide 'magical answers' or direct advice, but helps you to explore yourself and find resolution.  By achieving this can only help in your journey through life should other obstacles come into your path.

Psychology is the science of the mind and its mental states and processes.  Psychology can involve the use of behavioural science, as this is a special branch of psychology which deals with the study of observable human behaviours.

Psychologists are trained to be able to provide a diagnosis of a mental disorder.
